Applying for the UK Youth Mobility (Working Holiday) Visa

This allows you to live and work in London for up to 24 months. In addition to being an Australian or New Zealand citizen, you will also need:
- A current passport
- At least £1600 in the bank (the equivalent of - It's OK if it's in another currency)
- Be between the ages of 18 and 30
You can check to see if you are eligible for the visa by using the UK Border Agency's Points-based Calculator.
How to Apply:
Step 1:
Make sure you have a valid Australian or New Zealand passport with at least 6 months remaining before it expires. You will need to have this before submitting your Visa application.
Step 2:
Check the Visa requirements using the Points-based Calculator and ensure that you are eligible for the Youth Mobility Visa. If you are unsure, contact your local British Embassy for advice before applying - it may become quite a costly exercise if your application is declined.
Step 3:
Once you have checked the requirements and know that you are eligible, you can apply for the Tier 5 visa online though the UK visas website: http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow.aspx
Note: If you apply online, you will also need to be ready with a credit card to pay the visa fee online.
Step 4:
At the end of the online application process you will be asked to book an appointment at your local Biometrics office. Make sure that you read all of the information regarding this and turn up on time! Offices are only located in the main city centers so you may have to travel to complete this part of your application.
At the Biometrics office they will look at your documents, take a photo and scan your fingerprints. You will need to ensure that you have all of your relevant documentation with you including:
- Your passport
- Your Visa Application Form (print this out after step 1)
- Your Biometrics booking confirmation form
Step 5:
Get a passport photo taken. The requirements for this are standard (e.g. no smiling, plain background, standard passport size). The best thing to do is visit your local post shop and have this done, that way you can be sure the requirements are correct.
Step 6:
Post your application form. You also need to include your passport (actual passport, not a photocopy) and your passport photo.
